Team's consistency earns Frink Battle of Books title

Frink Middle School’s team put together a consistence performance to win the annual LCPS Middle School Battle of the Books on Friday and will represent the district in the regional battle next month.

Frink’s total of 83 points – 40 in the first round and 43 in the second – was enough to edge the team from Woodington Middle School, which posted 50 points in the first round but finished with 81 points. The team from Rochelle Middle School, returning to the Battle of the Books after a two-year absence, finished third with 75 points. Contentnea-Savannah K-8 School was fourth.

This year’s Battle of the Books tested students’ knowledge of books from a common reading list of 27 titles through questions related to content. Teams competed in a round-robin format.bob_logo

The event was held at Teachers Memorial School and Training Facility. Ryan Gardner, science department head at South Lenoir High School, was moderator.

The winning team received certificates and medals and a gift from the school district to the school of books for next year’s battle.

Members of the Frink team are: Christian M., De'Anna G., Jesse W., Cintja C., Cristina A., Diana L., Abbey P., Chris W., Daniel P., Rose L. and Integrity M.. Joanna Price is coach and Beverly Jones is assistant coach.

Representing Woodington were: Ethan C., Izzy V., Jason N., Rebekah H. and Camryn G.. Coaches are Jean Whaley and Sherry Williams.

The team from Rochelle was: Keila K., Mariela S., Shantell C., Taliya W., Shanauria H., Jakyra S., Tinya B.  and Nicholas H. Coaches were B. Saunders- Moultrie and Iris Jones-Nelson.
