A team of five students from North Lenoir High School will represent North Carolina at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis next week after claiming top honors in competition at the North Carolina State FFA Convention this summer.
The North Lenoir Meats Evaluation & Technology team placed first in the meats evaluation competition in June, marking the fifth time in the past eight years that North Lenoir has won this state event. Teams members are Kelsie Stocks, Katherine Spence, Janna Moore, Roberto Garcia and Hunter Wiggins. Reggie Jenkins is FFA advisor.
This team dominated the math formulation problem and, in cementing its win, had to identify 30 retail meat cuts; place in correct order four rib-eye steaks based on eye area, marbling and color; and complete a 25-question test covering the meat industry.
