Southeast Students Attend Storytelling Festival

storyEarlier this year, the Southeast fifth graders attended the Kinston Regional Public Library Storytelling Festival. The students enjoyed engaging stories from various genres. As an extension of the stories the students were given the opportunity to participate in the tales by acting out parts of the stories.

La Grange Elementary Wins the County-wide Battle of the Books Competition

The Elementary Battle of the Books competition was held on Friday, April 12th.  La Grange Elementary participated in the County-wide Elementary Battle of the Books competition. For this competition, 4th and 5th grade students read 14 books and had practice sessions.  Students discussed what they were reading and then went over questions to review the books. Each year, 9 elementary schools participate in a "quiz bowl" style tournament against other schools.  The tournament tests their knowledge of a list of books established by the North Carolina Library Media Association's Battle of the Books committee.  Interested students are encouraged to read the books, study the titles and authors, and take and pass AR quizzes on the books.

Banks BEST Celebrated Good Behavior

banksbestEarlier this year, Banks BEST celebrated their good behavior at the PBISCarnival. The children participated in lots of activities includingface painting, football toss, ring toss, prize walk, hula hoopcontest, and hairspray painting. They danced with their teachers andate popcorn. Cyndy Faulkner, principal, said "I am very pleased withthe positive impact PBIS has had on our children and the opportunitiesthe program provides.

Southeast Students Celebrate Reading with a Sandwich Board Book Cover Parade

bagsAIG students at Southeast celebrated Book Report displays via a Sandwich Board Book Cover Parade. On the front portion of the book cover the students re-created the cover to illustrate an important scene. Also, the students wrote short synopsis of the book, essential questions, and made oral presentations about the book. The students were extremely happy to hold the parade within the hallways at Southeast. The hallway parade was held in order to allow other classes to see what the AIG students had been reading. Most importantly, the Artistic Programming was suppplemented by grant monies from the Community Council of the Arts. AIG students participating were: Shameria A., Mya G., Shaunessi E., Jamal S., Shanuaria H., Orande' W., Teshon W., Dylan M., LeGacy H., Babi D., Zamoria E., Jayala B., Ivan B., and Na'eem P.

NLHS Cheerleaders Win Southeast Showdown Cheerleading Competition

cheerEarlier this school year, the North Lenoir JV cheerleaders won first place in the Southeast Showdown Cheerleading Competition held at LCC.  In addition, the five-person stunt team, which featured Taylor J., Rachel J., Lillie D., Haylee W. and Courtney H., also captured first place in the stunt division.  These girls have worked so hard this year and did a tremendous job at the competition representing our school.  Dee Dee Jernigan, Hawk varsity assistant coach, won the jump-off in the varsity coaches division.   GO HAWKS!
